NAVAL ARCHITECTURE

No matter how good a yacht looks it is of no use if it’s capabilities do not match. Both experience and scientific techniques make it possible to give the best sailing capabilities.

We have the most modern software for the design of our hulls. We use the Autoship suite of programs for our designs. This software is under constant development ensuring the reliablilty. Autohydro is used for the calculation of the hydrodynamic data.

To predict the resistance and propulsion characteristics we use several software programs, including some of our own. We always compare this with our database with the data of built yachts. This database is fed with data from the trials. In some cases the purely theoretical and statistical approach is not accurate enough. We then study the the characteristics by means of tank testing. Resistance and propulsion data from tank tests gives accurate data, especially for special and critical yachts or ships.

Our database has data ranging from manually propelled boats up to vessels with a maximum speed of 37 knots. The yachts designed by us range from light up to heavy displacement in both roundbilge and v-shaped hulls. We have designed yacht powered by both propellers and waterjets. One of our yachts even has a steam engine.

An other part of naval architecture is the structural design. During the years we’ve designed contructions of yachts to all major classification societies, such as Lloyd’s, Germanischer Lloyd, DNV, Bureau Veritas and RINA. Based on our structural design we’ve made complete workshop drawing packages and building kit preparation.

Martin de Jager Yacht Design BV can deliver a full package of naval architecture, including building kit for any type of yacht.
